There are several moods for verbs. One is the indicative which is how most verbs are used. The other is the imperative which is when an order is given and no subject appears in the sentence, but is assumed.

The table below gives examples of verbs in the indicative and imperative mood. The verbs are in italics.



Examples of verbs in the indicative and imperative moods
Indicative We mow the lawn. I open the door. You make toast for breakfast.
Imperative Mow the lawn now! Open the door, please. Make toast for breakfast, please.
