# Hundredths

A hundredth is one hundredth of a whole, as the name implies. Just as ten tenths make up one whole, one hundred hundredths make up a whole.

Another way of defining a hundredth would be to say it is one tenth of a tenth as shown below where ten hundreths equals one tenth.

Below is a chart of hundredths. Notice how the single digit hundredths are written with a zero right after the decimal point. This is because that is the tenths place and with these numbers there is no tenth as part of the number. Notice that the numbers in the last column are written two ways. This is because ten hundredths is also equal to one tenth, two hundredths equals two tenths, etc..

The most common use of hundredths in everyday life is again with money. A penny is equal to one hundredth of a dollar. Ten pennies equal one dime which is one tenth of a dollar.
